Turkish airport and railway infrastructure upgrades

Siirt Airport has officially reopened following extensive renovation and modernization works. Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the terminal expansion increased the airport’s annual passenger capacity from 100,000 to 250,000.

Upgrades included increasing the total terminal area from 1,062 square meters to 3,135 square meters. Specific improvements were made to the departure lounge, arrival lounge, VIP area, and administrative spaces. The project also included the construction of a 7,800-meter perimeter security road and wall as part of broader regional investments in transportation infrastructure.

In addition to the aviation upgrades, Minister Uraloğlu provided updates on the Siirt-Kurtalan Railway Project. This 34-kilometer line is currently over 30% complete and is intended to connect Siirt to the national railway network by 2030. The railway project involves significant engineering, including eight tunnels and two viaducts, and is expected to facilitate both passenger and freight transport, specifically for local agricultural products.

Minister Uraloğlu further noted that the region has received significant investment in transportation and communication infrastructure over the last 24 years, totaling 62.5 billion lira.
