Turkish food and medicine safety inspections

Overview

Turkish authorities have conducted several operations to seize and destroy expired or illegal goods to protect public health and safety.

In the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa Province, municipal police seized approximately five tonnes of expired, unlabeled, or improperly stored food and cleaning products for destruction. Local officials noted that these inspections have increased consumer awareness regarding product labels and expiry dates.

Subsequent operations expanded to include animal products. In Uşak, authorities seized nearly 6,000 boxes of expired animal medicine and unbilled medicinal products, resulting in one detention. In Diyarbakır’s Çınar district, gendarmerie intercepted a vehicle carrying approximately three tons of unregistered animal fat deemed unsuitable for human consumption. Legal proceedings have been initiated in these cases.
