Turkish inland fish stocking initiatives
Overview
The Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is conducting fish stocking projects across various provinces to revitalize inland water resources and support ecological sustainability.
In Denizli, approximately 1.386 million juvenile carp were released into 32 ponds across nine districts. These fish were sourced from the Mediterranean Fisheries Research Institute. In the Çameli district, which hosts 90% of the province’s licensed fish farms, 100,000 juvenile fish were released into the Yeni Mahalle Pond. To facilitate healthy development, authorities implemented fishing bans in the targeted ponds for at least one year, after which they will be opened for recreational fishing. General regulations also remain in effect, including a seasonal ban from March 1 to June 1 and a minimum carp size limit of 40 centimeters.
Following this, the initiative expanded to Uşak, where 433,000 scale carp fry were introduced into 19 ponds, including Göğem Pond. The project aims to protect aquatic resources, preserve biological diversity, and ensure that natural life is passed down to future generations.
