Turkish local government service expansion

In late July 2026 Turkish municipalities continued a wave of service upgrades.

On 22 July, the Küçükçekmeke district of Istanbul opened a paid “Foam Point” car‑wash offering foam cleaning, washing and vacuum services. The same day, Samsun’s Canik district announced a four‑fold increase in its municipal vehicle fleet, adding service and cleaning vehicles, including a new tractor‑type unit, to speed response for residents.

Four days later, on 26 July, Balıkesir’s coastal town of Akçay launched a sea‑bus line to the Greek island of Lesbos, attracting strong passenger demand and providing a fare‑free, customs‑processed link that bolsters tourism. In Aydın’s Incirliova district, two new municipal vehicles—a shovel and a waste‑taxi—were donated, raising the local fleet to 23 vehicles and improving waste collection and road‑maintenance capabilities.

Together, these actions illustrate a broader push by Turkish local authorities to broaden transport options, expand municipal fleets, and introduce new paid and free services for residents and visitors.
