Turkish municipal impersonation fraud warnings

Overview

Municipalities in Turkey have issued warnings regarding fraudulent phone scams involving the impersonation of local officials.

In Nevşehir, scammers have been contacting residents while pretending to be senior municipal officials or deputy mayors. These individuals have used the names of real officials to gain trust, subsequently demanding money or offering fraudulent employment opportunities. The municipality advised citizens that no city officials request funds or make job offers via telephone.

Similarly, the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality reported attempts by unidentified individuals impersonating the ESHOT General Manager and Deputy Secretary General. In these instances, scammers contacted citizens and company officials to request bicycle donations under the guise of social assistance projects. İzmir authorities have notified legal agencies and urged the public to report suspicious activity to law enforcement.
