Turkish parliamentary inquiries into road safety
Overview
Members of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) have raised concerns regarding dangerous road conditions and traffic safety in different regions of Turkey.
In Mersin, Deputy Gülcan Kış submitted a parliamentary inquiry regarding the Alifakı–Tuzla road in the Tarsus district. Kış reported that the route, which serves a prison campus and local agricultural workers, suffers from narrow lanes, sharp curves, and poor visibility. She requested a project plan and budget from the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure to address the frequent accidents on the road.
In Kahramanmaraş, Deputy Ali Öztunç called for urgent safety measures on the Elbistan-Göksun road following several fatal accidents, including one that killed a child. Öztunç noted that existing speed enforcement systems are insufficient for the area’s dangerous intersections and demanded the installation of signaling systems and traffic markings to prevent further loss of life.
