Turkish Red Crescent soup kitchen expansion

Overview

The Turkish Red Crescent is expanding its ‘81 Provinces 81 Soup Kitchens’ project to provide social support and disaster relief across Turkey.

In early September 2026, a new facility opened in Kars, designed to serve approximately 7,000 people during disasters and provide daily meal deliveries to the elderly and people with disabilities. Turkish Red Crescent President Prof. Dr. Fatma Meriç Yılmaz reported that 45 kitchens are currently operational, with plans to open 20 more facilities within six months.

Shortly after, a new soup kitchen was inaugurated in Bitlis on Selami Yurdan Street. Supported by the Eren family, this facility aims to provide daily hot meals to 1,100 people. During the opening, Bitlis Deputy Governor Tarık Safa Kahveci emphasized that such humanitarian efforts are central to the ‘Century of Türkiye’ vision.
