Overview

As the 2026-2027 academic year approaches, Turkish municipalities and authorities are implementing various measures to manage rising costs and ensure student safety.

In addition to the previously established shuttle fee increases in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, economic pressures are being felt across other regions. In Diyarbakır, the estimated initial cost for a student’s basic needs is approximately 9,480 TL. To mitigate these costs, some municipalities are conducting inspections on stationery prices and product safety, while Tuzla is offering free preschool programs.

Security and traffic management have also become priorities. In Batman, the municipality has deployed 130 cameras across 37 intersections to provide 24/7 monitoring of school zones. Similarly, authorities in Çorum are coordinating security and traffic measures to facilitate a safe transition for students.

Beyond logistics and finances, the Ministry of National Education has announced a re-assignment schedule for former school administrators, and psychologists are advising parents on how to help children manage school-related anxiety during this period.
