Turkish seafood and animal products export growth

Overview

Turkey’s seafood and animal products export sector has demonstrated significant growth and regional production capacity. In the Arsuz district of Hatay, aquaculture facilities covering approximately 730,000 m² produce an annual yield of roughly 16,000 tonnes of seabream and sea bass, with much of the catch exported to European markets such as Italy, Spain, and Portugal.

On a broader scale, the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters' Union (ESÜHMİB) reported reaching a milestone of over $2 billion in total exports between August 2025 and August 2026, a 13.5% increase from the previous year. The fisheries sector served as the primary driver for this growth, accounting for approximately 80% of the union’s total export value at $1.596 billion. Key contributors to these figures included sea bass, sea bream, and Turkish salmon. The union currently exports to 122 countries, with Italy, Russia, and Greece serving as major destinations.
