Turkish starch-based sugar industry investigation

Overview

Turkish authorities launched a major investigation into the starch-based sugar industry across eight provinces, including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Adana. Coordinated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the probe follows audits by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Treasury and Finance that identified irregularities in production and sales.

Investigators allege that companies bypassed quota and domestic sales restrictions by using intermediary firms and deceptive invoicing. Products were reportedly mislabeled as maltodextrin, glucose, starch, or fructose to conceal their true nature. Law enforcement conducted searches at 26 locations belonging to 25 companies, seizing documents and digital materials, and summoned 47 executives for questioning.

In response to reports regarding the investigation, Kervan Gıda Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. issued a clarification via the Public Disclosure Platform. The company stated that it is not a suspect, witness, or related party in the matter, noting that the entity named in reports is a different company, Kervan Gıda Sanayi ve Ticaret Limited Şirketi, based in Adana. The listed company emphasized there is no legal identity overlap and that the investigation has no impact on its operations or financial status.
