Turkish universities launch senior education programs
Overview
Turkish universities have begun implementing the ‘60+ Refreshment University’ program, an initiative aimed at supporting lifelong learning and active aging for citizens aged 60 and older.
Bartın University (BARÜ) launched the program to integrate seniors into academic and social life through tracks such as health, technology, art, and digital literacy. The initiative seeks to foster intergenerational interaction by allowing older citizens to share expertise with younger students.
Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University (NÖHÜ) also introduced the program in collaboration with the Ministry of Family and Social Services. This version of the initiative features 12-week programs consisting of theoretical and practical lessons taught by volunteer academics. To graduate, participants must complete four semesters, after which they receive diplomas and official student identity cards.
