Typhoon 25 railway damage and restoration in Japan
Overview
Following damage caused by Typhoon 25, JR East began restoring services on several lines in Chiba Prefecture. In early October 2026, service resumed on the Narita Line between Sahara and Choshi, and on the Uchibo Line between Nagaura and Kisarazu. However, landslides kept the section between Nagaura and Anegasaki suspended, requiring replacement bus services.
By late October, JR East announced that service on the Uchibo Line between Anegasaki and Nagaura is expected to resume on November 9, 2026. This restoration will allow the limited express ‘Sazanami’ to return to its full route. To facilitate the restart and remove temporary equipment, service will be suspended between Anegasaki and Kisarazu on November 8, with substitute buses and cycle services provided for specific sections.
