UAE humanitarian response to Ebola outbreak

Overview

The United Arab Emirates has allocated $10 million to support international efforts to curb an Ebola outbreak in Africa and strengthen health response capabilities in affected regions.

Announced through the Emirates International Aid Agency during a United Nations General Assembly meeting, the initiative follows directives from President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri, head of the agency, stated the country remains committed to supporting global efforts to face health crises.

To date, the UAE has provided over 150 tons of aid, including protective equipment, infection control materials for approximately 280 health facilities, shelter supplies, and food. The funding addresses ongoing challenges in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where the geographical spread of the virus requires increased international coordination.
