UAE indoor summer fitness and entertainment initiatives

Overview

In late May, Abu Dhabi introduced a network of climate-controlled fitness facilities, including free indoor workout sessions, a 660-metre air-conditioned running track at Khalidiyah Park, and cooled walkways designed to keep the temperature at a constant 24 °C. The project expanded the emirate’s park system with additional cooled corridors and indoor sport zones. Two weeks later, Dubai rolled out the second edition of the Dubai Mallathon, converting six major shopping centres into air-conditioned walking and running tracks for a three-month summer programme. The free initiative, backed by the Crown Prince, targets residents, visitors and people of determination, and aligns with Dubai’s Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and the UAE’s “Year of the Family” 2026. In early July, Dubai’s Arabian Center launched a daily summer family entertainment programme that runs from 10 July to 2 August, opening daily from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. The offering includes face-painting, mascot visits, interactive games, brand-partner activities, cinema Screen One blockbusters, the Air Maniax trampoline and climbing zone, Fun City rides, Lemonade creative play zones and the newly opened Mini Bounce attraction. A future addition, Scorpion Bowling, will provide bowling lanes for birthdays and casual competition. The centre promotes the programme via its social-media channels and website, positioning it as an indoor leisure option for families during the hot summer months. Around the same period, lifestyle publications circulated guides listing more than 50 indoor activity ideas for Dubai families on school holiday. The suggestions range from baking, craft projects and DIY décor to board games, charades, musical chairs and structured drawing or snack-building challenges, with advice on balanced screen-time and low-cost alternatives to outdoor outings or paid attractions. These guides complement the organised indoor venues by encouraging home-based, budget-friendly ways to stay active during the extreme summer heat.
