Getafe manager and president clash after Lugano defeat

Overview

Following Getafe’s 5-2 defeat against Lugano in the UEFA Conference League on October 22, 2026, a public dispute has emerged between manager José Bordalás and club president Ángel Torres.

Bordalás criticized the club’s management, stating he felt “deceived” and “angry.” He argued that unfulfilled promises regarding recruitment and squad depth left the roster unable to compete in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Conference League simultaneously. The manager noted that his attempt to rotate the squad to manage fatigue backfired, forcing halftime substitutions to avoid further embarrassment, and compared the team’s defensive performance to a Spanish second-division side.

Getafe president Ángel Torres responded to these accusations, remarking that Bordalás needs “absolute brass neck” to claim he was deceived after 30 years of service. While Torres indicated that no immediate drastic action would be taken, he noted that the door remains open for the manager to leave if he remains unhappy with the current situation.
