In late July, two developers announced sizable housing schemes in England. Redford Developments applied to convert the former Nationwide headquarters in Swindon into 175 homes with green spaces and a pocket park, while Breck Homes sought planning permission for a 232‑unit affordable estate on the former Ravenhead Brickworks site near Wigan. A few weeks later, the building activity continued across the country. Mulgrave Properties completed a ten‑home, eco‑focused development in the North Yorkshire village of Bubwith, contributing funds for local recreational facilities and installing sustainable features such as heat pumps and EV charging points. Meanwhile, larger proposals were under review near Warrington: Redrow submitted a request for up to 450 homes on a 47‑acre site in Culcheth, and Bellway planned a second phase of up to 250 homes on a 22‑acre parcel in Winwick, both pending environmental impact assessments. The momentum continued into 2026. In August, Breck Homes secured planning permission from Leeds City Council for a 120‑home affordable development on the former Lloyds Banking Group data centre in Farsley, West Yorkshire. The Dawsons Corner scheme will provide a mix of one‑ and two‑bedroom apartments and three‑ and four‑bedroom houses for shared ownership and affordable rent, together with residential gardens, public green space and upgraded children’s play facilities, with construction slated to begin in November 2026 and finish by December 2029. At the same time, Redrow Homes Yorkshire and Bellway Homes submitted a reserved‑matters application for Phase 1C of the Monks Cross Garden Village on York’s outskirts. The addition of 45 houses, including 13 affordable units, expands the broader 970‑home garden‑village plan that already incorporates a primary school, nursery, retail hub, playing fields and a 36‑acre country park. The proposal retains green corridors, cycle paths, EV‑charging points for each home and a small allocation of self‑build plots.
