Ukraine-Russia technological and strategic conflict

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has characterized the conflict with Russia as a ‘technological war,’ emphasizing that Ukraine must outpace Russia in innovation cycles involving drones, robots, and missiles to determine the outcome.

Following his removal from office in mid-July amid leadership disputes that also led to the dismissal of General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Fedorov has highlighted both technological successes and strategic vulnerabilities. While Ukraine has increased deep strikes into Russian territory using domestically produced Flamingo missiles, Fedorov warned that the nation is losing ground due to corruption, a lack of unified strategic vision, and slow technology implementation. He described the current government as operating at only ‘five percent efficiency.’

Analysts suggest the conflict has transitioned into a strategic struggle of endurance. While Russia holds advantages in manpower and production, Ukraine is attempting to offset these through drone warfare and strikes on Russian energy infrastructure to increase the economic costs for Moscow.
