Ukraine‑Russia conflict at Konstantinovka
Entities: Kramatorsk · Slavansk · Ukrainian Defense Forces · Konstantinivka · Russian Armed Forces
Overview
In early July 2026 Russian forces announced the capture of the transport hub of Konstantinovka, advancing westward along a nearly 2,000‑km front. Kyiv endured its heaviest air attack since the war’s active phase began, with missile strikes on Dnipro, Poltava and Chernihiv. Ukrainian analysts credited increasingly automated, drone‑heavy tactics and continued Western supplies of precision weapons for slowing the Russian advance and disrupting its logistics, pointing to a shift toward a protracted, attritional conflict.
By late July British intelligence reported that newly deployed Russian soldiers were surviving only 20–30 minutes on the frontline, with casualty rates soaring among assault units drawn from former convicts, mobilised troops and contract soldiers. After taking Konstantinovka, Russian commanders refocused on modest territorial expansion and on severing Ukrainian supply lines, employing small infantry teams supported by FPV drones and loitering munitions to press attacks on the southern and southwestern outskirts and to probe Ukrainian rear positions.
Further assessments on 24 July confirmed record Russian casualties in the Konstantinovka battle, while the high‑tempo attacks continued. By 28 July the main thrust of the Russian offensive shifted toward the Slavansk‑Kramatorsk axis, employing KAB bombs, artillery and Shahed drones. Russian units also intensified operations around Konstantinivka to encircle Ukrainian defenders in Chasiv Yar, but Ukrainian forces kept eliminating large numbers of Russian infantry, prompting continual redeployment of reserves.
