Ukrainian counterattacks in Lyman region

Overview

In the Lyman sector of eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian forces have conducted counterattacks that have forced Russian troops to withdraw from forward positions. Early reports highlighted disputes over the control of Sviatohirsk, where Ukrainian video evidence contradicted Russian claims of occupation.

Russian military bloggers and ultranationalists have increasingly criticized their own military leadership, accusing commanders of maintaining a “culture of lies.” These commentators specifically denounced the use of “beautiful reports”—exaggerated or false battlefield accounts intended to mask operational failures and present an overly optimistic view of the frontline.

Following the execution of “Operation Vivaldi” by Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps, several areas north of Lyman, including Nove, Ridkodub, Katerynivka, Karpivka, and Novomykhailivka, were reportedly liberated. Ukrainian officials stated the operation resulted in significant Russian casualties and the capture of over 250 soldiers.
