Overview

Ukraine has undergone a significant government reshuffle following a corruption investigation and domestic unrest. The Verkhovna Rada approved President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s nominees for two key positions: Andrii Sybiha as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Yevhenii Khmara as Minister of Defense.

Yevhenii Khmara, a former SBU Lieutenant General, succeeds Mikhail Fedorov. The leadership changes occur amid a period of instability. The dismissal of Fedorov sparked protests, and Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi was also dismissed following accusations of political involvement. Concurrently, anti-corruption investigators have launched an operation targeting officials close to the President, alleging a group including the deputy head of the President’s Office was involved in laundering 3.35 million dollars.
