Ukrainian military training in Poland

Ukrainian military training in Poland, led by Norway, has focused on advanced combat skills. Initial programs omitted formal instruction in drone piloting and electronic warfare because Ukrainian forces had already acquired significant expertise in these areas through active combat. Instead, drones were integrated into exercises to maintain realism and facilitate a reciprocal learning environment where Western personnel could gain insights from Ukrainian experience.

As training progressed at Camp Jomsborg in the Podkarpacie region, NATO instructors, including Norwegian and American personnel, evaluated the soldiers. Brigadier General Atle Molde praised the troops for their ability to improvise and adapt to changing battlefield conditions, noting that NATO forces could potentially learn from this capacity. However, instructors identified gaps in conventional military knowledge, observing that while soldiers possess extensive combat experience, some lack fundamental skills such as basic rifle marksmanship. Norwegian experts attributed the high level of creativity among Ukrainian troops to their use of less standardized procedures compared to NATO protocols.
