Ulsan industrial and energy infrastructure development
Overview
Ulsan is expanding its industrial and energy infrastructure through significant investments in battery materials and renewable energy logistics.
HS Hyosung Energy Solution Korea, a joint venture with Belgium’s Umicore, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ulsan City to invest 1.2 trillion won into silicon anode production. This multi-stage project aims to establish a mass production system in the Ulsan and Mipo National Industrial Complexes by 2030, with the first phase targeting an annual capacity of 5,000 tons by early 2028.
In parallel, the city is advancing offshore wind and maritime energy projects. Proposals include a 500MW floating offshore wind demonstration project to generate local revenue. Additionally, Ulsan has announced a 1.078 trillion won second phase for the Namshin Port energy hub, which seeks to transition the port into a Northeast Asian logistics center for hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol.
