Umbria regional political shifts and coalition tensions

Political dynamics in the Umbria region of Italy are undergoing shifts characterized by internal coalition disputes and the formation of new political entities. In Gubbio, the Umbria Civica movement has accused Fratelli d'Italia of using a group called Civitas to destabilize the local majority by absorbing administrators from other lists. In response to these local fractures, the ‘Alleanza civica per l’Umbria’ was launched by various mayors to unite local administrators under a platform of liberal culture and merit in preparation for the 2027 elections.

At the regional level, tensions have emerged regarding the composition and direction of President Stefania Proietti’s administration. Following criticisms from Azione leader Carlo Calenda, who described the regional budget as “disastrous,” regional councilor Nilo Arcudi has called for clarity on the influence of centrist forces. Arcudi expressed concern that the government is becoming increasingly dominated by the Five Star Movement and the Alliance for Green and Left, potentially marginalizing moderate and reformist components within the coalition.
