Unexploded ordnance discoveries in Poland

Recent reports from Poland highlight ongoing public safety risks involving unexploded ordnance and historical military remnants.

In early September, significant quantities of World War II-era munitions were uncovered during construction and agricultural activities. In Nowa Ruda, an excavator operator found a metal box containing roughly 200 pieces of ammunition, requiring intervention from military sappers. In Płońsk, a farmer discovered over 700 hazardous items, including hand grenades, detonators, and grenade launcher projectiles, which were subsequently handled by specialized sappers.

Subsequent reports indicated further safety concerns in forested areas. In Ostrów Wielkopolski, a projectile or grenade-like object was discovered by pedestrians, prompting police to secure the area. Additionally, officials in the Kolbuszowa Forest District reported the theft of a steel grate from a fire pit, raising concerns regarding recreational infrastructure safety. Authorities continue to advise the public to avoid touching suspicious objects due to the lethal nature of wartime remnants.
