Unicamp liquid bandage technology development

Overview

Researchers at the University of Campinas (Unicamp) have developed a biocompatible liquid bandage technology designed to accelerate wound healing by up to 50%. The technology, developed by the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, creates a transparent, waterproof protective film over a lesion in approximately 45 seconds.

This innovation aims to overcome the limitations of traditional bandages, such as gauze or tape, which can restrict movement in joint areas or damage new tissue during removal. The polymer solution acts as a three-dimensional structure that supports cell regeneration while providing a barrier against infection. Notably, the material is designed to be metabolized by the body, eliminating the need for manual removal, and utilizes non-toxic, renewable solvents in its production.

The technology has been licensed to Dermbio Biotech, an academic spin-off company. The company is currently navigating regulatory stages with the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) to bring the product to market.
