Unión Cívica Radical internal disputes

Overview

Internal disputes have emerged within the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR) party across different regions in Argentina.

In Río Negro and northern Neuquén, political leaders expressed opposition to the intervention of the Cutral Co committee ordered by Neuquén party president Juan Peláez. Local leaders, including Pedro Amadeo Rivero and Jorge Rivero, supported the local Cutral Co leadership, while representatives Antonio Lice and Kato Benegas condemned the move as an “undemocratic action” imposed by provincial leadership.

Simultaneously, in Valle Viejo, the party’s unity fractured following the submission of a second list for departmental committee leadership. This challenged a provincial agreement intended to establish a single unified list, ‘Radicales Unidos’. While provincial leaders sought consensus, the UCR Charter’s provision for departmental autonomy allowed a second list, led by Carlos Luján and Agustín Marchetti, to be filed, leaving the final decision to the Electoral Board.
