Overview

The Universidad César Vallejo (UCV) Trujillo campus has resumed its ‘El Estudiante del Año 2026’ academic competition after an eight-year hiatus. The initiative, proposed by founder Dr. César Acuña Peralta, involves more than 26,000 fifth-grade secondary students from 501 public and private institutions across the La Libertad region. The contest is designed to recognize academic excellence and promote critical thinking, leadership, and research through a three-stage evaluation process.

As the competition progressed, approximately 2,870 students from five highland provinces in La Libertad participated. The highest level of engagement occurred in Sánchez Carrión, with roughly 1,200 students, followed by Otuzco, Santiago de Chuco, Gran Chimú, and Julcán. During an event in Huamachuco, UCV Trujillo General Director Gisell Prado Álvarez also announced the establishment of a new admissions office in the city to improve local access to university information and services.
