Overview

In late July 2026 the Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) in Santiago intensified its role in Chile’s photographic culture. On July 27 the university launched a month‑long Photography Month featuring exhibitions, astrofotography sessions and workshops on AI‑assisted image processing, while also hosting the Ministry of Science’s “Explora con IA” bootcamp to promote AI literacy among students and teachers.

Two days later UDP’s General Studies, Archives and Culture Directorate highlighted the institution’s longer‑term function as a national photographic archive. Since 2001 the university’s Cenfoto UDP has expanded its collection from 70,000 images to millions, digitising holdings such as the La Nación fund and using the August Photography Month to showcase its archival work and interdisciplinary projects.

Together, the snapshots illustrate UDP’s expanding commitment to preserving Chile’s visual heritage, integrating cutting‑edge AI education, and using public events to engage the community with both historic and contemporary photography.
