University Hospital Zenica expansion project

Overview

The University Hospital Zenica has introduced a conceptual design for a major healthcare expansion project in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Estimated to cost approximately 800 million KM, the proposed complex is intended to feature 1,017 beds, modern clinics, and advanced surgical and diagnostic facilities. To support the project, the Zenica-Doboj Canton government has agreed to pay the City of Zenica 16 million KM for land rights, with an initial 40 million KM investment cycle already underway for a new oncology building and a heating plant.

However, the Zenica City Council has since clarified that the Cantonal Hospital has not yet submitted a formal request for urban planning consent for the new oncology department. While the City Council expressed support for modernizing oncology services, Chairperson Snježana Vrhovac emphasized that the project must follow established legal procedures and verified facts to ensure it is realized efficiently.
