UPCN union labor disputes in Argentina

The UPCN union has raised several grievances regarding the administration of public services and modernization efforts in Argentina.

Initially, the union challenged a digital innovation project proposed by the Executive branch. While stating they do not oppose modernization or artificial intelligence, leadership criticized the lack of regulation and the potential for power to accumulate within the Secretariat of Modernization. They argued the proposal failed to address worker rights in digital environments or the functional reorganization of agencies, calling for a review to ensure clear control mechanisms.

Subsequently, the union shifted focus to the deteriorating physical conditions at the Property Registry. Representatives reported electrical risks, exposed wiring, and inadequate storage, noting that some documents were being kept in bathrooms. Criticizing the government for prioritizing digital transformation while physical infrastructure remains precarious, the union threatened to move office operations to the street if solutions are not provided. They also called for permanent staff appointments to address the high number of workers in transitory positions.
