Urban development projects in Renca, Santiago

The Municipality of Renca and the Government of Santiago are advancing major urban development projects.

A tender was launched on August 14, 2026, to transform the Renca Hills into a tourism destination. The project features a 3.7-kilometer path connecting Avenida El Cerro to the summit, which is intended to host the highest 360-degree viewpoint in Santiago. The plan includes landscaping with native species, LED lighting for the existing summit cross, and three new plazas—one for access, one for children, and one dedicated to indigenous peoples. The initiative also incorporates universal accessibility features and assistance vehicles for people with reduced mobility. The tender remains open until October 14, 2026, with construction projected to begin in the first half of 2027, potentially benefiting approximately one million people.

Parallel to the hills project, a proposal for a large-scale multipurpose arena in Renca is under consideration. Designed to host international concerts and sporting events, the venue would have a capacity of 22,000 spectators—approximately 5,000 seats more than the Movistar Arena—aiming to address the shortage of large venues in the capital. While the municipality reports the project has solid financing, it has not yet entered the formal environmental evaluation process.
