Urban green space development in Arad
Overview
The city of Arad, Romania, has initiated several projects to expand and modernize its green infrastructure.
Local councilors approved a 59 million lei investment to transform 3.5 hectares of unused land in the Aurel Vlaicu neighborhood into a new recreational park. This project, which expects to receive approximately 20% funding from the European Union, aims to provide dedicated green space for the district’s 30,000 residents.
Separately, a 2.8 million euro modernization project was announced for Mihai Eminescu Park. Supported by a 1.4 million euro grant from the West Regional Development Agency, the initiative will increase the park’s green and permeable surfaces to 90%. Improvements include planting 88 new trees, refurbishing pedestrian paths, and installing new lighting, Wi-Fi, and video surveillance. This project is intended to connect the park with other recreational zones along the Mureș riverbanks.
