Urban regeneration projects in Pisa

Overview

The city of Pisa is implementing various urban regeneration initiatives focused on the repurposing of municipal and historical assets.

One project involved the conservative restoration of the 12th-century San Marco in Calcesana church. Funded by over one million euros through PNRR resources, the project transformed the building into a multipurpose space for cultural and social activities, including structural consolidation, the installation of modern technological systems, and the creation of accessible gardens.

In a separate commercial regeneration effort titled ‘Pisa is much more – Botteghe, idee e futuro’, the municipality launched a ‘Call for ideas’ to facilitate the temporary reuse of unused properties. This initiative, supported by a 70,000 euro investment including funds from the Tuscany Region, allows participants to host entrepreneurial, artisanal, or cultural projects in specific locations for approximately three months without rental fees.
