Urleasca wind farm development in Romania

Overview

The development of the 77 MW Urleasca onshore wind farm in Romania has progressed from initial turbine procurement to securing project financing.

In early August 2026, the Nordex Group secured a contract from developer OX2 to supply and install 11 N175/6.X wind turbines. The project, located in Brăila County, was subsequently sold by OX2 to the Norwegian company Scatec ASA. The site operates under a Contract-for-Difference with the Romanian state to guarantee revenue.

By late August 2026, Banca Comercială Română (BCR) and Erste Group provided 132 million euros in financing for the construction. BCR’s contribution totals 76 million euros. While OX2 will manage the construction phase, Scatec will oversee operations, maintenance, and asset management. The project is expected to reach commercial operations in the second half of 2028.
