Uruguayan law enforcement anti-trafficking operations

Overview

Uruguayan authorities have conducted several large-scale law enforcement operations targeting organized criminal networks involved in narcotics trafficking, money laundering, and smuggling.

In ‘Operation Golfo’, police conducted 32 raids and arrests across locations including Montevideo, Canelones, and Colonia del Sacramento. The operation targeted structures involved in narcotics, money laundering, and the trafficking of minors, resulting in the seizure of weapons, drugs, and cash.

Subsequently, ‘Operation Alcatraz’ led to the indictment of 11 women accused of managing a drug smuggling ring into the Rocha and Las Rosas prisons. The investigation involved raids across Rocha, San José, Maldonado, Chuy, and Cebollatí, resulting in the seizure of cocaine and mobile phones. Following the investigation, four women were placed in pretrial detention for 120 days, while six others were ordered to undergo house arrest with electronic monitoring.
