US and Israeli influence in Honduras

Honduras has become a focal point for strategic cooperation and influence involving the United States and Israel. Initial reports indicate the country is being utilized as a platform for United States and Israeli interests through military, economic, and technological strategies. This includes troop presence, security installations, and the use of fifth-generation warfare tactics such as mass surveillance, cyber warfare, and disinformation. Analyst Marco Consolo noted that Israeli involvement has expanded to include the use of Big Data for electoral manipulation and the provision of algorithmic analysis platforms to counter Chinese expansion in the region.

Parallel to these broader geopolitical strategies, the United States and Honduras have engaged in direct legislative cooperation to combat transnational organized crime. The Congress of Honduras and the United States Embassy have recently agreed to form working groups to drive reforms targeting drug trafficking, money laundering, and the rise of synthetic drugs. Led by Honduran legislators Kilvett Bertrand and Marcos Paz, these efforts aim to modernize legal tools and enhance institutional coordination.

Specific legislative priorities include strengthening the Sanitary Regulation Agency (ARSA) to control chemical precursors and the potential creation of new cybersecurity laws to prevent the digital facilitation of drug trafficking. In response to ongoing security challenges, Honduran President Nasry Asfura announced that the National Council for Defense and Security (CNDS) will be convened to establish a coordinated state response.
