A State Department spokesperson clarified that the DRL does not fund political parties, maintaining that the administration remains committed to defending democracy and human rights globally. However, the initiative has raised concerns regarding potential interference in European domestic politics, particularly as European nations prepare for upcoming elections and the administration maintains open support for populist and right-leaning parties.
