US-led coalition against left-wing movements

Overview

The United States Department of State, under the leadership of Marco Rubio, is organizing a summit in Germany scheduled for next month. The initiative seeks to develop strategies for addressing left-wing movements and parties that the U.S. classifies as “terrorists.”

This follows a July 16 conference in Washington that involved representatives from more than 60 countries. During that meeting, Rubio characterized the effort as the formation of a “coalition” against the left, drawing comparisons between the proposed intelligence sharing and security force coordination to historical models from the 1970s.

Argentina has been a key participant in these discussions. High-ranking officials from President Javier Milei’s administration, including Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno and José Lago Rodríguez of the State Intelligence Secretariat (SIDE), attended the Washington meeting. While Argentine authorities have kept certain details classified, other participants, such as the Foreign Minister of Georgia, have publicly confirmed the summit's agenda.
