US removal of sanctions on François Olenga
Overview
The United States Department of the Treasury, through the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), removed retired General François Olenga from its Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List on September 23, 2026.
The decision also lifted sanctions on Olenga’s associated entities, including Safari Beach and the Safari Club. According to his lawyer, Aimé Kilolo Musamba, the removal follows a nine-year legal challenge against what he termed “unfounded accusations.” The lifting of restrictions allows for the reactivation of frozen assets and enables Olenga’s businesses to resume international commercial activities and partnerships with the United States.
