Uttar Pradesh infrastructure and welfare developments
Overview
The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated several large-scale infrastructure and welfare projects. Initially, the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) announced plans for three new greenfield expressways, including the Vindhya Expressway, the Meerut-Haridwar Expressway, and the Vindhya Purvanchal Link Expressway. These projects, estimated to cost over ₹15,000 crore, aim to support industrial growth and the state’s goal of reaching a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
Following these announcements, the state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved 22 major proposals. A significant portion of these decisions involves a ₹17,542 crore plan to develop four link expressways—the Farrukhabad, Jhansi, Jewar, and an Agra-Lucknow to Purvanchal link—spanning approximately 322 km. These projects are to be executed by UPEIDA in EPC mode with a three-year completion target.
Social welfare initiatives have also expanded. The cabinet approved cashless medical treatment for non-teaching staff in secondary and Sanskrit schools, as well as Basic Education Department employees and their dependents, a move expected to benefit approximately 50 lakh people. To support the rural economy, the government approved the State Livestock Mission, which offers up to a 50% subsidy for cattle rearing and assistance for 85% of animal insurance premiums. Other approved measures include the establishment of a cyber security operations centre via IIT Kanpur’s C3iHub, the expansion of Sainik School in Mainpuri, the development of a PRAGATI Robotics Park, and the implementation of the Global Capability Centre Policy-2024 to encourage foreign direct investment.
