Vandalism and municipal surveillance in Poland

Municipalities in Poland are addressing vandalism through varying approaches to surveillance and infrastructure management. In Świecie, authorities have initiated a contract for a new city-wide monitoring system involving 33 modern cameras, with a total investment potentially reaching one million zloty.

In Olsztyn, existing surveillance successfully enabled police and city guards to identify a perpetrator responsible for nighttime vandalism at a construction site, resulting in a fine and a requirement to restore damaged property.

However, other regions face challenges. In the Łukowica municipality, officials reported significant damage to a sports field in Świdnik, including destroyed seating and advertising banners, causing losses amounting to thousands of zlotys. Meanwhile, in Świdnica, residents have requested more cameras to combat public disorder on Pułaskiego Street, but the municipal government has denied these requests due to budget constraints and an aging monitoring system operating at near-maximum capacity.
