Vandalism of public property in Italy
Overview
Reports of vandalism against public property and community assets have emerged across various Italian municipalities.
In mid-September, incidents were recorded in San Vittore Olona, where a park drinking fountain was damaged, and in Gussago, where the tips of a contemporary art installation by Lucio Perone were stolen. In San Vittore Olona, Mayor Marco Zerboni noted that the municipality would cover repair costs as the perpetrators remained unidentified.
By October, further acts of vandalism were reported in Stalettì and Partanna. In Stalettì, authorities filed a complaint after changing rooms at a local sports field were destroyed, including broken doors and sanitary facilities. In Partanna, damage was reported to playground equipment in Piazza Umberto I and a stone bench in Via Gramsci. Local officials in both locations have appealed for citizen assistance and provided surveillance footage to the Carabinieri to aid investigations.
