Vehicle theft and fraud in Da Nang

Overview

Police in Da Nang arrested Ngo Hai Nam for a fraud scheme involving the theft of self-driving rental cars. Nam allegedly used legitimate identity documents to rent vehicles and build trust with owners.

Once in possession of the cars, Nam reportedly used forged identification—including citizen ID cards, VNeID information, and marriage certificates—to impersonate owners or their spouses. He then used these documents to pawn or transfer the vehicles for profit. Investigations indicate Nam misappropriated three cars from rental businesses in the Da Nang and Bac Ninh provinces.
