Vehicle theft attempts in Italy

Overview

Authorities in Italy have conducted separate operations to intercept attempted vehicle thefts.

In Rome, a 30-year-old man was arrested on Via Flaminia after attempting to break into parked cars. The suspect, who had masked his face, reportedly resisted arrest with violence, including “kicks, punches, and spitting,” toward Carabinieri officers. Police seized a handmade crowbar and a folding knife during the arrest.

In Reggio Emilia, four individuals—three men and one woman—were intercepted by Carabinieri and Italian Army personnel during the ‘Strade Sicure’ operation. The group was caught in Piazzale Europa attempting to loot and damage parked vehicles, including an attempt to remove a wheel from a Ford Fiesta. The suspects face charges of attempted aggravated theft in concert and unjustified possession of burglary tools.
