Veliko Tarnovo election commission preparations
Overview
In late August 2026, political parties and coalitions in Veliko Tarnovo reached a consensus regarding the leadership of the District Election Commission (RIK) for the upcoming presidential and vice-presidential elections. Hristo Danev of the Progressive Bulgaria coalition was elected chairperson, supported by deputy chairpersons Plamen Kostadinov, Diana Petrova, and Viktor Lyaskov, with Silviya Decheva proposed as secretary. The distribution of mandates among participating political forces was agreed upon unanimously.
Following official confirmation of the 13-member commission by the Central Election Commission on September 2, 2026, the commission began its formal work on September 5. During this time, Regional Governor Marin Bogomilov met with the commission members to discuss the importance of a “transparent and honest electoral process” and introduced the technical support team from the Regional Administration.
