In late July 2026, the Mérida region of Venezuela shipped its first 19.2 tonnes of specialty coffee to Belgium. The export, handled through a new dry‑port and a single‑window customs system, was presented as a milestone for regional logistics and a step toward diversifying the state’s economy away from oil.

By early August, officials confirmed that the dry‑port facility was fully operational, enabling additional shipments of Venezuelan coffee to both Belgium and the United States. The announcement highlighted the role of coordinated national and local support in streamlining customs, military inspections, and tax certifications. The same report also noted a parallel surge in Honduras’s coffee exports, which surpassed its 2026 target and saw significant shipments to Europe and the United States, underscoring a broader trend of Latin American coffee producers expanding their presence in global markets.
