Venezuela maritime and port service expansion
Overview
Venezuela is expanding the service capabilities and technological integration of its maritime terminals. Initially, the La Guaira and Puerto Cabello ports, managed by Bolivariana de Puertos (Bolipuertos), integrated into the operational platforms of major international shipping lines such as Maersk, CMA CGM, and Hapag-Lloyd. This integration utilized an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system to automate information flow and improve cargo traceability.
Following these technological advancements, Venezuela moved to establish itself as a strategic maritime fuel supply hub in the Caribbean. Through a partnership between Bolipuertos, Impordiesel, and TFG Marine, the country began implementing Ship-to-Ship (STS) bunkering services. These operations provide various fuel types, including Marine Gas Oil (MGO), Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO), and High Sulphur Fuel Oil (HSFO), in compliance with international MARPOL and IMO regulations.
