Venezuela post‑earthquake housing projects
Entities: Delcy Rodríguez · Venezuelan government · Ciudad Caribia · Plan Venezuela Renace · Maderas del Orinoco
Overview
In late July 2026 the Venezuelan government accelerated its response to the June 24 double‑earthquake by launching two complementary housing initiatives.
On 30 July, Acting President Delcy Rodríguez oversaw the start of a modular‑housing programme in Ciudad Caribia. Crews prepared the site and began installing prefabricated metal panels that can be assembled in about 40 minutes, allowing a new single‑family unit to be completed each day. The units include private bathrooms, insulated walls, lighting and basic services, creating temporary “mini‑cities” while permanent homes are built.
The following day Rodríguez visited a communal carpentry workshop in the La Limonera community of Baruta, part of the Plan Venezuela Renace recovery plan. The workshop, revived through popular consultation, produces up to 1,000 doors a month and has already manufactured 700 beds for temporary shelters and components for the “Casa de los Abuelos” homes. Timber is supplied by the state firm Maderas del Orinoco, and the project is promoted as a model of communal economy and endogenous development.
Together, the modular‑construction effort and the community‑run workshop illustrate a dual strategy of rapid, prefabricated shelter provision combined with locally driven production of housing components to support families displaced by the earthquakes.
