Venezuelan opposition political transition efforts

Overview

Venezuelan opposition leaders are developing frameworks to facilitate a political transition and establish an electoral roadmap. Enrique Márquez, leader of the ‘Pacto por Venezuela’ initiative, has called for a new National Electoral Council (CNE) and an open electoral registry to prepare for upcoming elections. He also emphasized the necessity of addressing the national electricity crisis through decentralization and private investment.

Building on these efforts, the Plataforma Unitaria Democrática (PUD) announced a ‘National Unity Agreement’ designed to coordinate democratic leadership and various social sectors. This proposal aligns with a three-phase plan involving stabilization, recovery, and transition. The PUD continues to demand verifiable results from political dialogues, specifically the appointment of an independent CNE and a definitive electoral schedule. The coalition noted that economic recovery and the resolution of crises in water, health, and education are vital to the national reconstruction process.
