Political developments in Veracruz continue to focus on the administration of Governor Rocío Nahle García, particularly regarding water management and fiscal accountability.

Governor Nahle has requested that the National Water Commission (Conagua) investigate a water well concession in the Perote region. This follows complaints from residents in Altotonga and Jalacingo regarding water shortages. Nahle noted reports suggesting the well is linked to the family of former gubernatorial candidate José Francisco Yunes Zorrilla, stating that if water intended for agricultural irrigation is being sold commercially without authorization, the concession will be revoked.

Infrastructure funding remains a concern following the decision by concessionaire Grupo MAS, a subsidiary of ACCIONA, to decline participation in Conagua’s Water and Sanitation Stimulus Program (PEAS). This move prevents the municipality of Veracruz from accessing 62.2 million pesos in federal funds, which could have been combined with company counterpart funds to reach a total of 124.4 million pesos for projects such as the Olmeca treatment plant.

On the legal and oversight front, Nahle has maintained her support for an initiative to remove constitutional immunity (fuero) for municipal presidents and trustees to ensure official accountability. Additionally, the Superior Auditor of the Federation (ASF) confirmed that audits concerning the administration of federal funds during former Governor Cuitláhuac García’s term are ongoing, with officials currently working to submit documentation to address audit observations.
